EMDR Therapy and Intensives

If you’re living with the weight of past trauma, anxiety, or overwhelming memories, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy offers a path toward deep healing. Whether you prefer traditional weekly sessions or a more focused intensive format, Be Free Counseling is here to support you in finding relief and reclaiming your life.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is a structured, research-backed approach developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to help the brain safely reprocess distressing memories. Using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), EMDR can reduce the emotional charge of painful experiences, allowing you to move forward without feeling stuck.

It’s highly effective for:

• Trauma and PTSD
• Distress linked to past events
• Recovery after abuse, assault, or loss

How EMDR Works

EMDR therapy typically follows a phased approach, including:

• History and Planning: Understanding your goals and experiences
• Preparation: Building trust and learning coping strategies
• Reprocessing: Safely targeting distressing memories with bilateral stimulation
• Installation and Body Awareness: Reinforcing positive beliefs and clearing body-held tension
• Closure and Progress Review: Making sure healing continues after each session

Many clients notice a significant reduction in emotional distress — often without needing to talk through every detail of the past.

Deeper Healing, Faster Progress

If you’re ready to move through healing more quickly, an EMDR Intensive may be right for you.

EMDR Intensives are concentrated sessions offered in 3-hour blocks, full-day (6 hours), or multi-day formats. This structure allows you to dive deeper into the work without the frequent stopping and restarting weekly therapy.

Benefits of EMDR Intensives

• Accelerate progress — one day can equal two months of weekly therapy
• More time for deep processing and stabilization
• Fewer overall sessions needed
• Ideal for busy schedules or focused trauma work

You can continue working with your regular therapist while doing an EMDR Intensive with us — we’re happy to collaborate and support your larger goals.

What to Expect During an EMDR Intensive

Each EMDR Intensive is customized to fit your unique needs. Before your scheduled intensive, we’ll complete an assessment session to identify your goals, prepare resources, and ensure you feel safe and ready to begin deeper work.

On the day of your intensive, we’ll move at your pace, alternating periods of focused reprocessing with grounding and rest breaks. Some clients process several memories in a single session, while others focus deeply on one theme or event.

You don’t need to prepare anything specific — just come as you are, knowing you’re stepping into a supportive, trauma-informed space. Many clients leave feeling lighter, more connected to themselves, and with new clarity.
